Oh, Great Pumpkin, where are you?

26 Sep

With Halloween right around the corner, and highs of  around seventy, autumn is definitely in the air.  After a weekend of fun in Oktoberfest, I set out a week later to discover some local festivals, beginning with the Pumpkin Festival in the neighboring village of Dormitz.

Pumpkin Everything

Pumpkins are obviously the main attraction.  You can buy everything from the teeny tiny to the enormous.  If you’re hungry you can buy pumpkin pie, pumpkin cake, pumpkin cupcakes, or pumpkin soup, and wash it all down with your choice of coffee, beer, or even a shot of pumpkin alcohol (everything in moderation, of course!).  Rows of tables and benches are set up under tents, complete with a DJ to get the party going.  Stands sell decorated pumpkins with silly faces and you can go for a walk in the pumpkin patch in back after you finish eating the pumpkin goodies.  Obviously, this is a country bumpkin kind of event, so if you are more of the afternoon at the Met type, this is not for you.  As for me, I’m all set for trick-or-treaters and even Thanksgiving guests with the six pumpkins I took home!  You definitely can not beat this festival’s prices, or its pumpkin pie.

What a very interesting event, and once again the photos are super : I tried to eat the picture of the pumpkin pie, but it had a dry taste to it. I’m sure it was even better fresh !
